Our school was established in response to parents who wanted a school that would meet the needs of their children who had been diagnosed with learning disabilities. Edmonton Academy Society for Learning Disabled was formed and Edmonton Academy opened its doors to the first group of students in September 1983.
For more than three decades Edmonton Academy has been offering the future to students with learning disabilities. A learning disability is often called the “invisible handicap” and children with learning disabilities are often overlooked or dismissed.
Edmonton Academy is able to serve students with learning disabilities because its unique structure as a special-needs independent school designated by Alberta Education enables the teachers to respond directly and effectively to the students’ special learning needs. Edmonton Academy Society for Learning Disabled (operating as Edmonton Academy) is a registered not-for-profit society governed by a volunteer Board of Directors.
