Admissions Criteria for Edmonton Academy

Edmonton Academy welcomes students with diagnosed learning disabilities and has clear admissions criteria to ensure each child benefits from our specialized programs.

Edmonton Academy serves students diagnosed with Specific Learning Disorders in reading, writing, and/or mathematics. To qualify, a student must have at least one of the following diagnoses confirmed through a psychoeducational assessment:

  • Specific Learning Disorder in Written Expression (Dysgraphia).

  • Specific Learning Disorder in Reading (Dyslexia).

  • Specific Learning Disorder in Mathematics (Dyscalculia).

Important Notes

  • Students may have additional diagnoses, but one of the above must be present.

  • Students with cognitive or intellectual disabilities are not served at Edmonton Academy.

  • A diagnosis of ADHD or Autism Spectrum Disorder alone is insufficient for admission.

Grade Levels & Programming

  • Grades Served: 3–12 (This is because specific learning disorders are rarely diagnosed before grade 3.)

  • High School Focus: Academic streams leading to a high school diploma. No Knowledge and Employability courses are offered currently.
