The History of Edmonton Academy
Our school was established in response to parents who wanted a school that would meet the needs of their children who had been diagnosed with learning disabilities. Edmonton Academy Society for Learning Disabled was formed, and Edmonton Academy opened its doors to the first group of students in September 1983.
For more than four decades, Edmonton Academy has been offering the future to students with learning disabilities. A specific learning disorder/disability is often referred to as an “invisible handicap” and children with a specific learning disorder/disability are often overlooked or dismissed.
Edmonton Academy is an Alberta Education designated special education school able to serve students with a specific learning disorder/disability because of its unique structure. This focus of our school enables the teachers to be responsive to effectively program for all students’ individual specific learning needs. Edmonton Academy Society for Learning Disabled (operating as Edmonton Academy) is a registered charitable organization and operates as a registered not-for-profit Society in Alberta governed by a volunteer Board of Directors.
Edmonton Academy Laid The Foundation for Success
“My son attended Edmonton Academy from Grades 7-12 inclusive. He received a focused, individual and thorough educational experience. His experience at Edmonton Academy laid the foundation for success in a post-secondary University environment. The staff are dedicated, friendly and affable.”
